Fish & Chips with an Award
I drove my car up to the Western Washington All British Field Meet last weekend and I was delighted to see that five Jensen-Healeys had made it this year. One [the red one] was trailered over from Eastern Washington, the white car was just purchased and driven up from CA. They all had great stories.
The red J-H is a 1974½ 5-speed. The owner, her husband, had died after spending over $15,000 on restoring it. His widow brought the car over after one of his friends told her it was hidden away in a storage locker. She told me he spent 10 times the original estimate and he didn't want to tell her. She had all the receipts. It has Dellorto carrbs, 107 cams and near straight exhaust. She loves the car; she had two posters made telling the story of the car, you can see them in front.
The darker green J-H 5 to the right of red J-H was bought new in 1977 and is one of the last ones built. The original owner has kept it for almost fifty years and it is completely, totally stock. It just got out of the shop after10 months of work and is in amazing condition. Brian won the first prize award.
Next to Brian's car is my Jensen-Healey Cooper, which won 2nd prize. Notice that, at least to me, it looks smaller than the other two? I won't bore you with details on my car. As I said, the white car had just been driven up from CA. The owner had period correct WA plates for the car from one of his father's cars.
The last car (far right) was an ex-racer that a father had kept for many years and set aside for his daughter, who had grown up with her mother. She has been slowly restoring this car. Five cars, five great stories, five owners who love their cars.
